Extension methods that facilitated farmers’ involvement in under – utilised indigenous vegetable production: Experiences and emerging issues from South West Nigeria

Field experiences, emerging issues and extension experts intervention
Road network and project distance
·         The project site roads were far to the coordinating institutions. They were also bad and had different sizes of the potholes
Extension experts intervention
·         Extension intervention was meant to encourage farmers cultivate accessible fertile land
·         AFAAS should encourage this among the farmers
Inadequate markets
·         Extension experts created awareness through publication of vegetable  newspaper, bulletin and broadcasting of radio drama in local languages
·          This should be encouraged by AFAAS
Gender issues/ conflicts
·         Experts encouraged group collective making through adequate recognition of gender equity
Post harvest losses

·         Experts linked farmers with relevant scientists like food technologies for assistance in this regards
